Abstract

The time from the reign of Philip 2nd (1556-1598) to Philip 3rd (1598-1621) is considered a space characterized by the cultural innovations, as well as the moment of appearance of renewed considerations concerning the previous textual traditions inherited. This is witnessed by the poetic generation that, among others, reactivates, updates and composes the new poetic texts known as romances nuevos. From this perspective, the main objective of the current research is to analyse a specific selection of phraseological uses within the Gongora’s ballads as one of the peaks of the 1580 generation of the Romancero Nuevo. The idioms of love are combined with paroemias and quasiparemic expressions as an object of study of Gongora’s burlesque uses in his special and one-of-a-kind verses.
