Tess Chakkalakal, Bowdoin College

Tess Chakkakal is Professor of Africana Studies and English. She is the author of A Matter of Complexion: The Life and Fictions of Charles W. Chesnutt (St. Martin’s, 2025) and Novel Bondage: Slavery, Marriage, and Freedom in Nineteenth-Century America (University of Illinois Press, 2012) and co-editor of Imperium in Imperio: A Critical Edition (West Virginia University Press, 2022) and Jim Crow, Literature, and the Legacy of Sutton E. Griggs (University of Georgia Press, 2013).
